The males breeding colour is the same purple red of other Nimbochromis so it does not play dead for long during breeding season. |

As with all Nimbochromis this fish also plays dead on the bottom awaiting to suck in any unsuspecting young fish. Males are yellow and blue speckled with blue green heads, females have browny yellow and white patches. |
